Author Agreements

Into the Shadewell is an internet publication for Shadewell LLC. It is not a profit generating enterprise, but for the entertainment of clients and fans of Shadewell.

Our Aesthetic for Into the Shadewell is first and foremost “otherworldly” in a general sense but more specifically, we are looking for mystery, whimsy, and wonder. Whether it be a swashbuckling space adventure, a gritty detective noir, or a poetic story of forbidden love, we appreciate all genres so long as they feature mystery, whimsy, or wonder.  We would like to focus on stories with a supernatural element, and we prefer stories focused on crossing a threshold into another world, or viewing this world from an otherworld perspective. We do hold a special place in our hearts for stories that feature an enigmatic spirit of the well. Whether you incorporate a spirit of the well into your submission or not, the Spirit of the Well will serve as host and introduce your story. That part may either be written into your story, or our editor will draft an introduction as the Spirit.

We thank you for showing interest in contributing to our efforts.

By submitting your manuscript, you agree to the following:

Shadewell LLC reserves the right to publish, or reprint the contributed material in any media format at any time. Likewise, the artist/author maintains their rights to reprint or sell printing rights to a third party.

Short story contributions are paid a flat fee, upon acceptance, of $500.00

The process is as follows:

Author submits their material. The editor reviews the material for submission. If there are any revisions needed, the editor will return the manuscript with the recommended revisions included. Once the editor of Into the Shadewell is satisfied with the draft, the contributor will be paid $500. After the author is paid, their contribution will be put up on the website.

If your submission to Into the Shadewell is used in alternate media by Shadewell LLC and said media generates profits they will be distributed the following way:

  1. Profit means revenue after cost to produce i.e. after web services, editing, marketing, support staff etc. are paid. Shadewell LLC will receive 20% from any digital media beyond Shadewelltattoo.com.

  2. Artistic contributions, as in illustrations, to any literary piece will receive 10% of any profit for a headline image, and 2% of any profit for in-text imagery, not to exceed a combined total of 20% and not to exceed the total amount of any author contributor for an anthology reprint.

  3. If the submission is used by Shadewell LLC for an anthology or collective bundle of any sort, profits will be distributed equally amongst the contributors by number of contributions (meaning the author is counted by the number of their submissions, not just as an individual contributor). Shadewell LLC will receive 10% commission for anthologies. Visual submissions follow the distribution model above.
